Google had earlier announced an update to Chrome that would start blocking autoplay advertisements. While the company had said the update would officially start rolling out from 2018, you can actually get it right now.

Chrome 64 is available in beta form right now, and if you’re willing to contend with the possible bugs, you could get it right now.

Chrome 64 is available in beta form right now, and if you’re willing to contend with the possible bugs, you could get it right now. While Chrome 64 has other features too, the main addition is the automatic blocking of all autoplaying content.

You will find the option to do this in the permissions bar inside Chrome 64. It’s worth noting though that Chrome won’t magically start blocking all autoplay videos if you turn this on. Instead, you will have to manually add all websites you want the feature for. On the other hand, what Chrome will do with this update, is mute any sound coming from these videos automatically.

Further, Chrome 64 also includes new security protocols to avoid auto redirects to malicious websites. It also supports HDR video playback for Windows 10’s HDR mode. There’s a pop-up blocker too, and for Chrome OS users, the split screen feature will become available, allowing smoother multitasking.
