Samsung is reportedly working on a mid-ranged smartphone with dual-cameras on the back. The company’s device should be the recently leaked Galaxy J7 Plus, although there’s no confirmation on the same. Samsung recently launched its first dual-camera smartphone in the form of the Galaxy Note 8 as well, but it seems the company is prepping for competition in growing markets like India.
Bringing a mid-ranged dual-camera smartphone will allow Samsung to position itself better against the onslaught of Chinese OEMs in growing markets.
Further, the Samsung Galaxy J series this year has been mostly about the camera. The company’s Galaxy J7 Max does have a pretty good camera, while the budget On Max smartphone focuses on low light photography. Bringing a mid-ranged dual-camera smartphone will allow Samsung to position itself better against the onslaught of Chinese OEMs in growing markets.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has two 12MP shooters on the back, and the company has added OIS for both cameras. It’s likely that OIS will be missing from the mid-ranged devices, but Samsung should still be focusing on the wide angle plus telephoto combination of lenses.
The other option would be to go for an RGB and monochrome sensor combination, that has worked well for phones like the Huawei P10 and some others.
