You may have seen images of a patent filing by Microsoft, which refers to a foldable Surface tablet. Now, new rumours suggest that this may in fact be the long speculated Surface Phone instead. Leakster Walking Cat found tweeted a link that lists a collection of applications on the Windows Store. The leakster says these apps are meant for Project Andromeda, which is a special version of Windows 10 meant for the foldable tablet.
However, Walking Cat points out that many of the apps on this list are for phones only, suggesting that the device may actually be the Surface Phone instead. Of course, Microsoft has not said anything to that effect. In fact, the company has largely washed its hands off the smartphone market, after failing to make a mark with Windows Phone.
Yet, the foldable Surface tablet could actually double as a phone, if Microsoft can add LTE support to it. Microsoft’s plans around mobile phones have been unclear for a while now. While the company has stopped producing Windows-based phones, it does want to take advantage of the smartphone market through its software. So, one can still imagine that Microsoft may have some phone related dreams alive within the company.
