As Microsoft prepares to release its Windows 10 statistics update this year, the company announced that 600 million devices are running on the operating system now. That includes devices like the Xbox One, PCs, tablets, the HoloLens headsets, Windows-based phones and even the Surface Hub. According to Geekwire, the numbers were revealed by Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella during the company’s annual shareholders meeting yesterday.
While 600 million is a huge number, Microsoft’s original plan was to have Windows 10 on a billion devices by 2018.
While 600 million is a huge number, Microsoft’s original plan was to have Windows 10 on a billion devices by 2018. So, the company still has some work cut out for itself. To be fair, a billion devices was an ambitious goal to start with. The growth of Windows 10-powered devices have slowed recently, though that’s pretty much expected.
According to The Verge, the company had been targeting 550 million active Windows 10 devices by June end, and grow to 575 million devices by the end of September. Some expect the company to come up with a Surface Phone, but Microsoft has made no allusion to the device, and phones seem to be a pipe dream right now.
