Twitch is finally taking a step into live streaming sports leagues. The video platform has been known for streaming e-sports so far, but it’s going to start live streaming the NBA’s minor league soon, known as the NBA G league. The company will stream as many as six games a week, along with some interactive features as well. The feature is set to go live on Twitch from Friday.

You can check out Twitch’s channel for this here.

Twitch is gamifying the whole thing, by adding achievements, leaderboards and even prizes.

Further, the company is adding options for users to click on team names or logos to gain access to statistics. You can even get loyalty points if you’re engaged during the stream. What is known though is that Twitch celebrities will be inolved in the initiative.

“We aren’t a traditional sports experience on TV, we are much more,” said Michael Aragon, senior vice president of content for Twitch.

The move is quite new for Twitch and one wonders what Amazon had to do with it. Twitch was acquired by Amazon back in 2014, but it’s so far been confined to the niche gaming markets. Twitch is certainly not close to streaming major league sports just yet, but this seems like a start.
