Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 845 today at the ongoing Qualcomm Tech Summit in Maui. The chipset is Qualcomm’s flagship for 2018 and will be running on flagship phones next year. Chinese upstart, Xiaomi, has already confirmed that its next flagship smartphone will be using the Snapdragon 845 processor.
Qualcomm said that the chipset supports video shooting in Ultra HD Premium resolution, allowing 10-bit colours.
One of the main advancements with the Snapdragon 845 is in video shooting capabilities. Qualcomm said that the chipset supports video shooting in Ultra HD Premium resolution, allowing 10-bit colours. That means videos will now be better saturated and with more natural colours. Essentially, a video shot on your phone is now ready for playback on your high-end HDR television.
Apart from that, the Snapdragon 845 is 30 percent faster than the 835 and also 30 percent more efficient than that processor. The company says it has improved AI capabilities on the chipset as well.
Next, the Snapdragon 845 brings a secure zone on the chipset, meant to store biometric information, keeping them away from rogue code on your phone. The Snapdragon 845 brings a bunch of other enhancements as well and we should be seeing them all in action from the Samsung Galaxy S9 onwards.
