Google is adding a new feature to Pixel smartphones that most people will appreciate, except maybe spam callers. According to 9to5Google, the feature will be sending spam calls to voicemail automatically without even letting the phone ring
It’s a big leap from flagging spam numbers, which Google’s phone app currently does. The phone app can turn your screen red whenever a spam call comes into the phone. However, with the new feature, this will not be required at all.
While the feature appears to be promising, the effectiveness will depend upon Google’s capacity to precisely identify the incoming spam calls although, needless to say, the scammers and fraudsters are likely to device ways to evade these protections as well.
Nonetheless, the tech giant has also not made it clear which countries will get the feature right now. Google’s spam detection feature isn’t perfect in countries like India right now, so it’s likely that the feature will be restricted to US, UK and perhaps a few more countries provided you have a Pixel, Nexus, or Android One device. Other Android users can install it manually via the Play Store.
