OnePlus is taking more interest in the United States’ market now. The company’s CEO, Pete Lau, confirmed that the company will be speaking to carriers in the US in 2018. “If the right opportunity and right timing come along, we’ll be very happy to experiment,” Lau said. He didn’t provide a timeline for when this will happen though.

OnePlus is known for making high end devices at comparatively low prices, although the company has been inching closer to the flagship range with each new launch.

The Chinese company, owned by BBK Electronics, has gained some ground amongst Android smartphone buyers. Having carrier support allows OnePlus to reach a larger customer base in the US, while it could also make use of carrier subsidies. Interestingly, this could be a pointer that OnePlus is planning to increase prices for its upcoming smartphones. Will the OnePlus 6 be nearly as expensive as the Galaxy S9 then?

According to reports, almost 85 to 90 percent of buyers in the US get their smartphones from carriers. So, that’s the most important avenue for selling in the country.
