Lenovo has denied reports that it’s laying off Motorola employees. The reports had emerged some days ago, when an employee from Motorola said Lenovo had halved its workforce in Chicago. Lenovo told Engadget that the reports were inaccurate and that the layoffs did not impact half of Motorola’s workforce.
"In late 2017, Lenovo announced a worldwide resource action that would occur over the next several quarters, and impacting less than two percent of its global workforce. This week's employment reductions are a continuation of that process. We are reducing our Motorola operations in Chicago however this did not impact half of our workforce there and our Moto Z family will continue,” the company told Engadget.
The company also said that the Moto Z series will not be affected by the layoffs. The Moto Z family is the company’s flagship smartphone series right now, and the only modular smartphone range on the market. Motorola has also used its Force branding with these devices recently, with the Moto Z2 force being a modular smartphone that has a nearly indestructible screen.
