In what would be a pleasant surprise for most gamers, Epic Games has announced that its soon to be launched Fortnite will support cross platform play with Playstation 4, Mac, iOS and PC. The game is also going to get Android support eventually. “Microsoft has long been a leading voice in encouraging the adoption of cross-platform play and the potential of connecting players across PC, mobile and all consoles,” a spokesperson from the company said.
“We have been working closely with the team at Epic Games for some time to bring this functionality to all current and future versions of Fortnite and expect it to be available on Xbox along with other platforms,” the spokesperson said. That said, the company didn’t actually confirm that Xbox One and PS4 players will be able to play together.
Nonetheless, with Game Developers Conference 2018 (GDC) coming in the next few days, it is highly probable that we could hear more about this soon, albeit the Conference doesn’t feature as many new product announcements as the likes of E3 or Gamescom expositions.
The company had first talked about crossplay between Xbox and Playstation players in 2016, at E3. However, the company has been facing resistance from Sony and hasn’t been able to add support just yet. In fact, Sony has even refused to enable cross-platform play between PS4 and Xbox One earlier.
