At Computex 2018 in Taiwan yesterday, Asus announced the first smartphone under its ROG brand. Simply called the ROG Phone, the device brings a lot of firsts to the smartphone market.
That includes a Snapdragon 845 chipset that is clocked at 2.96GHz, specially made for this device. According to Asus, the company worked with Qualcomm to overclock the processor for this phone.
While 90Hz is lower than Razer’s 120Hz display on the Razer Phone, it’s likely that the 1ms response time will make all the difference here.
In addition, the ROG Phone also uses Asus’ vapour-chamber cooling technology to avoid CPU throttles. That in turn should ensure high frame rates over extended periods of gaming. The ROG Phone also comes bundled with a fan accessory, that further helps in cooling it down when required.
Other than that, Asus has also fitted a 1080p AMOLED display on this, which is capable of 90Hz refresh rates at a 1ms response time. While 90Hz is lower than Razer’s 120Hz display on the Razer Phone, it’s likely that the 1ms response time will make all the difference here. Android games, as of now, do not run beyond 60fps anyway.
Lastly, the Asus ROG Phone has 8GB of RAM inside, along with 512GB storage. It has three USB Type-C ports, 18:9 aspect ratio and should be launched later this year.
