Amazon today announced its first waterproof Kindle ever. The new Kindle Oasis, which is an upgrade over Amazon’s flagship device, has the highest display resolution ever. So, along with IPX8 certification, the device has 300 ppi pixel density on a 7 inch panel. The device is priced at $250 for the 8GB version, and will start shipping from the end of October.
“Ten years ago, we introduced our first Kindle with the mission of delivering any book ever written in 60 seconds or less,” said Dave Limp, Senior Vice President, Amazon Devices. “With a larger 7-inch, 300 ppi display, waterproof design, the all-new Kindle Oasis is our most advanced Kindle ever. Its thin, light, and waterproof design allows readers to stay engaged in the author’s world in even more ways and places than ever before,” he added.
The new Kindle Oasis weighs 194 grams, which Amazon says is 10 grams lighter than its “best selling” Paperwhite model. The device also brings new fonts and five levels of boldness. There are also new accessibility options on the device, which allows users to invert the black and white of the display, increase the size of items in the menu bar and the text on the home screen.
