Is Alexa becoming sentient, and...umm...evil? Users of Alexa-powered devices have been reporting a spontaneous strange laugh “echoing” from the device. While the reports originated on social forums, Amazon has acknowledged the problem now. “We’re aware of this and working to fix it,” the company said.

The reports even trended on Twitter for a while and some users have even posted videos of the same. The laugh is creepy to say the least, served only to terrify some people, who were home alone or operating their Echos at night.

While many users believe that it’s likely caused by some bug, some did not hesitate to admit that the noises were "bone chilling" compelling them to unplug their Echo devices because of the issue.

The first such report came from Twitter users @CaptHandlebar on February 22. It has spread since then and many users have reported the same on Twitter and Reddit. Some even compared the laugh to the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey, to the point where the AI HAL 9000 turns evil.
