A part of the source code for Apple’s iOS operating system was leaked on GitHub recently. According to Motherboard, the source code was leaked by a former intern at Apple, who stole it. The intern apparently shared it with five friends who were part of the iOS jailbreaking community, in an effort to help them to jailbreak Apple’s system. Apparently, the intern apparently had a lot more of Apple’s source code, including material that wasn’t seen in the leak.

Reports say that the code was never supposed to leave the intern and the five friends. However, they started spreading it around and ended up on a Discord chat group eventually.

Reports say that the code was never supposed to leave the intern and the five friends. However, they started spreading it around and ended up on a Discord chat group eventually. It was even shared on Reddit, some four odd months ago, though a moderation bot apparently deleted it from the platform.

Apple told Motherboard that it was aware of the leak before it appeared on GitHub, and was asking the platform to remove the code. The company said that iOS’ security doesn’t depend on the source code remaining a secret.
