Google had made the Parking Difficulty feature, spotted by users earlier, official on the Android version of its Google Maps app.

The Android version of Google Maps is getting a new feature, called Parking Difficulty. The feature will tell users the kind of parking situations that they need to prepare for. The feature was earlier spotted by some users, but has now been made official by Google. It is, however, available only to users in the US at the moment, and in select regions of the country only. Announcing the feature via a blog post, Google said that it is launching Parking Difficulty in 25 metro areas in the United States.

“We have introduced the parking difficulty icon in Google Maps for Android that will give you a heads up on what kind of parking crunch to prepare for when you’re on the go,” wrote Google in its blog post. The availability of parking will be shown on the map with a rounded ‘P’ symbol. It will appear next to the travel duration on Google Maps.

Parking Difficulty will use three levels to explain the parking situation. This includes Limited, Medium and Easy. Colour codes will also be used, with red indicated limited parking space, while blue indicates otherwise. You can get more detailed information about parking space by expanding the directions.

The feature is currently only available in San Francisco, Seattle, Miami, Atlanta, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, Minneapolic/St. Paul, Orlando, New York City, Philadelphia, San diego, Tampa, Pittsburgh, Washington, DC, Cleveland, Dallas/Fort Worth, Denver, Phoenix, Houston, Portland and Sacramento.
