Google Assistant is getting new features on Wear OS
The Google Assistant may soon be much more useful for those who use smartwatches running on Wear OS. Google is reportedly adding smart suggestions to the platform, which will allow the Assistant to automatically show follow up questions based on the one you ask of it. So, if you ask the Assistant about today’s weather, it will suggest tomorrow’s weather as well.
While it’s probably too early to say this will make the Assistant more useful, it certainly seems that way. Adding the suggested questions will allow users to tap on them, instead of calling out the wake word again and again. This could be quite useful when you’re out in traffic or other noisy areas and your watch isn’t listening particularly well.
Further, if you’re wearing Bluetooth headphones or if your watch has speakers, the Google Assistant will speak to you if you ask “tell me about my day”. That, again, is a better way to deal with queries than displaying answers on the screen alone.
Next, Wear OS will also support third party actions with the Google Assistant now. So, you can start using voice commands for Google Photos, apps like Headspace and more.
