From Huawei to Intel, here’s what you can expect at CES 2018

The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) starting Monday at Las Vegas is historically known to flag off the tech year in great style.

The biggest tech show on the planet CES 2018 will kick off at Las Vegas on Monday, January 8 will start with a day of press conferences followed by three days of presentations and demos. The CES is historically known to flag off the tech year in great style. Tech companies including global giants like Apple, Huawei, Samsung, LG, Sony, Intel and several others will be unveiling a whole range of new technology products.

For those uninitiated, Consumer Electronics Show or CES as it is commonly known as, is recognised as the trend setter in the field of technology; and needless to say, this year will be no different. So what can be expected? Right from new smart home appliances, PC hardware, robots, smartphones, smart televisions and smart speakers, driverless cars, laptops and wearables are expected to be unveiled from popular to even tech start-ups.

Here’s what you can expect from CES 2018

Huawei

Huawei is expected to officially announce the company’s new partnership with local carriers.

After months of rumours and leaks, Huawei Consumer group’s CEO Richard Yu finally confirmed to media outlets that its flagship device will be officially announced in the USA. It is believed the Chinese smartphone maker is working on a launch with U.S. carriers with details likely to be revealed in Yu’s keynote at CES on Tuesday 9th at 2pm.

Yu is also expected to announce Huawei’s plans to take on its South Korean tech behemoth Samsung and its US rival Apple in the US possibly with its new flagship device Huawei Mate 10 Pro. Likewise, Yu is expected to officially announce the company’s new partnership with local carriers. Similarly, the Shenzhen-based giant’s sub-brand, Honor, is widely expected to follow suit. While the company might currently not be a household name in the US, the Las Vegas show could be a turning point for the the Chinese phone maker.

Sony

Sony is expected to unveil new TV and audio products at CES 2018

Japanese multinational conglomerate Sony is expected to unveil new TV and audio products at the show. The company is widely expected to launch next-gen mirrorless cameras and unsurprisingly a range of new OLED TVs aiming to take on Korean rival LG. While there are rumours that the Tokyo-based electronics goods manufacturer is working on bezel-less smartphones. However, industry insiders predict this announcement may be made at next month’s MWC in Barcelona.

Samsung

At CES 2018, Samsung aims to demonstrate the work they’ve done in the industry’s biggest buzzword the Internet of Things (IoT) besides of course, the Galaxy S8-inspired premium mid-end smartphones - the Galaxy A8 and A8+. The South Korean tech titan pledges to deliver ‘seamless connectivity across the multiple devices and technologies that we interact with in our daily lives.’

Other than the A8 series, the company has also announced several new Windows 10 laptops, including the 2018 edition of the Notebook 7 Spin. In addition, Samsung plans to display the convertible, 2-in-1 Windows 10 laptop with Active Pen support.

As we detailed in our previous posts, the world’s biggest manufacturer of electronic goods will tease its smart glasses for those with vision challenges; and GoBreath, a recovery device for people who have experienced lung damage. You can also expect Samsung to showcase its Thunderbolt 3 QLED Curved monitors as well as its latest mobile processor, the Exynos 9 Series 9810.

And finally, the Korean behemoth could also formally announce the Galaxy X, its first commercially available flexible display smartphone.

LG

LG has said that it will show off the largest 8K OLED TV

Samsung’s country rival LG has said that it will show off the largest 8K OLED TV as well as the ThinQ OLED and Super UHD TVs at CES 2018. The new series will use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to interact with users.

The company plans to also unveil its new “Raspberry Rose” V30 smartphone, a 150-inch 4K projector that supports HDR10 and the ThinQ, a Google Assistant-powered smart speaker. There are rumours that the Korean TV maker may launch its G7 flagship smartphone. However, officially the company remains tight lipped on this rumour.

Intel

Intel may unveil 8th-gen CPU with a custom-built AMD Radeon

US chip maker Intel has been in the centre stage after it was revealed that Intel’s processors apparently have a security flaw that could affect millions of Window PCs and Macs manufactured in the last decade or even more. But the California-based tech giant will ensure the controversy doesn’t affect the company’s new Kaby Lake G, which incorporates an Intel 8th-gen CPU with a custom-built AMD Radeon GPU. In fact, industry trackers believe the company will enter the gaming notebook race with the new chipset which promise to deliver more powerful, thinner and lighter premium laptops. The company is also likely to announce an 8-core/16-thread variant of Coffee Lake for the Z370 platform.

Qualcomm

Qualcomm is expected to talk about 5G, the next-generation of wireless networks.

Qualcomm is back into the limelight and joins chip maker Intel in admitting its processors have the same security vulnerabilities disclosed this week in Intel, Arm, AMD and IBM CPU cores. However, the California tech giant is expected to talk about 5G, the next-generation of wireless networks, in detail at CES 2018.

The San Diego, California-based telecommunications giant is buzzing about 5G as the key to our future connectivity. The company recently said that 5G is the next biggest things since electricity. The company is expected to shows off its new Snapdragon 835 chip, which is small and powerful enough to run the 5G devices of the future.
