Here’s your first look at Google’s redesigned Gmail for the web
We told you about Google’s impending redesign of Gmail for the web. The company had said that the redesign would be live in the coming weeks. But we have a first look at the design today, courtesy The Verge.
The publication obtained screenshots of the new design, which seems to follow Google’s material design guidelines. Gmail is also getting a bunch of new features, including smart replies, which has so far been seen on Gmail’s mobile app and Inbox, Google’s other email application. There’s also a snooze feature for emails that you want to be reminded of later. Most of the feature additions seem to be from Google’s Inbox app, that had been launched earlier.
There’s a new sidebar on Gmail that allows the Google Calendar, Keep etc. to be used within the web version of Gmail. Google is also allowing users to use Gmail on the web in compact, comfortable and default views. Compact view is meant to deliver concise information without highlighting attachments etc, while the default view shows you less messages, but more detailed information.
It is still unclear when Google plans a wide scale rollout of the new design, but it’s evidently all but ready. Head over to The Verge to check out the screenshots.
