Netflix is reportedly working on a television series based on Sabrina the Teenage Witch, says a report by Deadline. The company has been dabbling with such ideas recently, and is already streaming Riverdale, a series based on Archie comics.
According to the Deadline report, the Sabrina series was already under development at The CW. The show was apparently meant to run alongside Riverdale, mentioned above. Netflix has apparently agreed to two seasons with 10 episodes each already.
Further, it seems that like Riverdale, Netflix will not keep the Sabrina series light and simple either. The show is reportedly going to be a “dark coming-of-age story” for Sabrina Spellman, the lead character in the series. Many of the actors from Riverdale will also be making an appearance in this show, says the report. That makes sense, since Sabrina comics did often have parallels with the Archie series.
Ratings for the second season of Riverdale have been good. In fact, The Hollywood Reporter reports the live ratings for the season premiere of the second season increased by 60 percent, because new people started watching the first season on Netflix.
Netflix hasn’t announced a release date for the Sabrina series yet, but if it’s anything like the accruing Marvel series, it shouldn’t take a lot of time.
