Google today launched an app that allows users to monitor their data consumption. Known as Datally, the app is meant to help you track data usage and even cut down on the same. It will show you data consumption from each app you’re using and then recommend how you can cut down on the same. It will even identify nearby Wi-Fi networks that you can connect to.

It’s a good looking app too, with a large button on top that allows all background data usage. It’s worth noting that this will certainly interfere with notifications and other features of your apps. But that’s usually how most data saving apps work. The app also sets up a VPN in order to access data usage on your phone, so it may affect data speeds at times.
It’s interesting that Google has made this app though. Almost everything that Datally does can already be found in various parts of Android. The app essentially puts all of those features at the same place. It’s likely that Google is targeting this app at growing markets, where there are more first time Android users.
