Apple’s iOS is facing yet another bug crashing iPhones

Indian language characters are causing Messages to crash.
By Adam Smith,

A new bug on Apple’s iOS 11 can apparently cause iPhones to crash and can also block you from using Messages on the OS. Not only that, the bug can also keep you from using apps like Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and even Outlook. The bug was first spotted by Mobile World, and it apparently affects iPhones that are running on iOS 11.2.5. Even MacOS Safari and Messages are affected by the bug it seems.

Interestingly, the bug is caused by sending characters in Indian languages to iOS devices. It seems the iOS Springboard will crash if a message like this has been received, and the Messages app stops working. To regain access to iMessages and other apps, you will need to have a friend send you another message and then delete the thread that caused the bug in the first place.

The Verge tested the bug on Facebook Messenger, Gmail, WhatsApp and Outlook for iOS, confirming that the bug is relevant to all of them. The publication reported that Telegram and Skype are possibly unaffected, while the bug also doesn’t affect the iOS 11.3 public beta.
