The AMD Ryzen was already powerful and the 1800X is part of the enthusiast line-up.
What happens when you overclock AMD’s powerful Ryzen CPU? Well, extreme overclocker der8auer went and found out. The AMD Ryzen 7 1800X CPU was overclocked to a massive 5.8GHz, by using liquid nitrogen.
An Asus Crosshair VI Hero motherboard was used in the process, with the CPU BUS speed set to 130.4MHz, and a multiplier of 44.5. The final overclocked frequency came to 5802.93MHz.
Further, der8auer hadn’t disabled any of the CPU cores. That’s interesting, Bechar many overclockers would disable cores when doing this. The core voltage was set to 0.787 volts, but it’s not yet known what RAM was used. It was set to 1217.1 MHz, though.
The timings were quite aggressive, too: 11-11-11-28-44-1 (tCAS-tRC-tRP-tRAS-tCS-tCR).
The AMD Ryzen CPU has been widely hailed as the return of AMD. The processor gives Intel a run for its money, and may bring AMD back into the game.
