51% users don’t download a single app every month
One could argue that smartphones became prominent because of the respective app ecosystems. Google and Apple lead the market because of their app stores, each of which has millions of applications. However, users may not feel the same way. According to a recent report by ComScore, 51 percent of users do not download any apps in a month. The report is titled 2017 U.S. Mobile Apps Report, and deals with consumers’ habits with respect to apps and digital media consumption.
Not surprisingly, the ComScore report found that millennials spend more time on apps, while the time spent goes down with progressing age.
Further, the remaining 49% that downloads apps is comprised of 13 percent who download a single app every month. 11 percent users download two apps, while 8 percent download three apps. Only 7 percent users download five to seven apps, while 5 percent users are downloading 8 or more applications every month.
The report also finds that 57 percent of the time spent in digital media consumption is through mobile apps. Moreover, 50 percent of this consumption comes from mobile apps, while only 7 percent is from tablets. Desktop accounts for a share of 34 percent of the total time spent consuming digital media.
